Now spring is here it’s time to break out the old Liquid Eyeliner again! Everywhere in the S/S12 shows we saw flicks of every shape and size!
Applying eyeliner to your top eyelid requires patient and practice so for those on their first attempt, try using a soft Kohl Eye Pencil which will glide across the lid smoother and is also easier to remove if you make a mistake.
Once you’ve got the hang of the shape you want (generally stayling close to the lashline across the eye and then flicking out into a wing as the outer corner) try using liquid eyeliner for a sharper look.
You can flick the wing out as long or as high up as you want, it’s really just personal choice. Generally with flicks we like to keep the bottom lashes bare with just a hint of Mascara to keep things fresh. However at night, or if you generally fancy a more dramatic look try outlining the whole of the eye, with slight flicks in the inner corner to give a crazy ‘cats-eye’ effect!
Or of course, if you’re feeling majorly adventurous, try drawing on some swirling patterns!
A while back, at the entrance of a gym, there was a picture of a very thin and beautiful woman. The caption was “This summer, do you want to be a mermaid or a whale?”
The story goes, a woman (of clothing size unknown) answered the following way:
“Dear people, whales are always surrounded by friends (dolphins, seals, curious humans), they are sexually active and raise their children with great tenderness.
They entertain like crazy with dolphins and eat lots of prawns. They swim all day and travel to fantastic places like Patagonia, the Barents Sea or the coral reefs of Polynesia. They sing incredibly well and sometimes even are on cds. They are impressive and dearly loved animals, which everyone defend and admires.
Mermaids do not exist.
But if they existed, they would line up to see a psychologist because of a problem of split personality: woman or fish? They would have no sex life and could not bear children. Yes, they would be lovely, but lonely and sad. And, who wants a girl that smells like fish by his side?
Without a doubt, I’d rather be a whale. At a time when the media tells us that only thin is beautiful, I prefer to eat ice cream with my kids, to have dinner with my husband, to eat and drink and have fun with my friends.
We women, we gain weight because we accumulate so much wisdom and knowledge that there isn’t enough space in our heads, and it spreads all over our bodies. We are not fat, we are greatly cultivated.
Every time I see my curves in the mirror, I tell myself: “How amazing am I ?! “
Do share if you care.
Bright Red Lipstick is making a comeback for summer in a big way and in preparation, GOSH took to the stores to conduct a mass sample to find us a long-lasting lipstick.
True long-lasting Lipsticks are hard to find and with so many claiming “intense hours long colour” it’s difficult to separate the good from the poor.
So after many lipsticks and many make-up remover wipes later we settled on a winner.
Now this little compact doesn’t come in cheap, at £11 it’s a little bit of an investment for a Lipstick but we think it’s worth it.
It’s first plus is the cute little compact it comes with which also doubles as a handy mirror in case (unlikely) you need a touch-up, or like us, want to admire the colour.
The Lipstick comes in two parts, a red tube which has the lipstick base and a clear stick which provides the glossy balm. You apply one layer of red coat and leave it to set for about a minute before applying the balm which leaves your lips looking super glossy.
It leaves a really intense red colour that really does last (our tester wore it out to a noodle bar where it survived food and cocktails afterwards without wearing off).
After several hours (and we mean several hours) it did start to chip a bit, but on another tester if you reapply the balm every 2 hours (as the product states) it lasts perfectly. Of course, if you’re going to attempt long-lasting red Lipstick you must know that your lips need to be in good condition, there’s no point attempting any long-lasting lipstick on dry lips!
The only downside we could find to this lipstick is that the stick itself is very thin so when extended to full length it is susceptible to snapping but you can avoid this by only extending it out of the tube enough so you can use it.
We’re definitely going to be wearing this all Summer!

Now Spring is just around the corner (we hope) it’s time to ditch the dramatic wintery nails for something lighter and fresher. Think aqua’s and lilacs and very very nude!
